European Astronomical Society of Small Telescopes (EASST) –
a non-profit organisation dedicated to bringing astronomy closer to people. Our mission is to inspire a broad audience to explore the universe and actively participate in global research.
At the heart of our work is the Black Hole Target Observation Manager (BHTOM) — a unique citizen science platform that connects professional and amateur astronomers. BHTOM empowers the international astronomical community to collaborate, plan observations, and exchange knowledge.
The EASST Foundation was established by Prof. Łukasz Wyrzykowski, who currently serves as the President of the Board. Prof. Wyrzykowski is an astrophysicist at the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw and the National Centre for Nuclear Research.
He has worked and lectured at leading universities worldwide, including Tel Aviv, Manchester, Geneva, Princeton, and Santa Barbara. He spent a decade at the University of Cambridge, which remains the institution he is most closely connected with.
Author of over 350 scientific papers, his research focuses on dark matter, black holes, gravitational microlensing, and the Gaia space mission.
Together with prof. Wyrzykowski EASST consists of a team of dedicated professionals from various disciplines, brought together by a passion for citizen science.
BHTOM (Black Hole Target Observation Manager) is your gateway to seamless astronomical collaboration. Designed to coordinate a global network of small telescopes, manage observations, and process data efficiently. BHTOM connects researchers, telescope operators, and astronomy enthusiasts in a single, powerful platform. Whether you're studying time-domain phenomena or contributing observational data, BHTOM automates collection, standardisation, and sharing.
BHTOM helps you coordinate observations across a global network of telescopes. You can schedule and manage your targets effortlessly, while the platform handles data collection, PSF photometry, and calibration to Gaia filters automatically.
With access to historical archives, you can build time-series data for deeper insights. BHTOM also supports automation through API integration, allowing you to streamline your workflow and receive standardised photometric data without manual intervention. With BHTOM, you spend less time on logistics and more time making discoveries.
If you operate a telescope, BHTOM provides a simple and effective way to contribute to cutting-edge astronomical research. By registering your telescope in the system, you can find targets suitable for your telescope and have your observations automatically processed and shared with the research community.
Whether you're running a professional observatory or an advanced amateur setup, BHTOM allows you to play a key role in global astronomical research while making the most of your telescope’s capabilities.
